Sterling is the First US Rope Manufacturer to Debut UIAA Water Repellent Climbing Ropes

Biddeford, ME
Sterling Rope Company Inc. adds to a history of innovation firsts on the eve of its 25th Anniversary (2018). Amongst these firsts, Sterling was the first to develop a 100% polyester static rope and to use heat resistant fibers in fire escape ropes for FDNY. Sterling has again set the standard for performance, handling and durability with their new DryXP ropes, featuring a new dry treatment for their dynamic lines, a US-manufacturing first. Sterling’s new DryXP ropes are not only UIAA certified, but they also exceed their stringent standards for water absorption.

DryXP ropes offer the following:

Certified to the UIAA Water Repellent standard of less than 5% water absorption.

Feature an environmentally-friendly, nano-particle coating that’s applied to the entire rope.

Available standard on the Fusion Photon and Nano IX and is an optional treatment on the Evolution Helix, Velocity and Duetto.

Available for purchase in store as of July 1st and online July 18th.

With extensive in-field testing and feedback, Sterling engineers utilize this special technology to protect ropes and to ensure they perform well in all conditions.

“Sterling’s DryXP has exceeded my expectations with rigorous abuse of the Nano IX DryXP,” says Angela Hawse, Sterling Team member and IFMGA/AMGA Guide. “I’ve tested it from ski mountaineering on the Antarctic Peninsular to climbing ice and alpine rock routes high in the Rockies. While dragging it across glaciers and testing it on wet ice climbs it has shed moisture like a freshly waxed car. Even on rough desert sandstone this spring it has withstood considerable abrasion, shown little wear and retained its solid hand after considerable use. The tighter sheath of the Nano IX combined with the new DryXP treatment is a winning combination. Yet another innovative Sterling solution to help me focus on the objective, not my rope.”

Sterling will release an expanded line of DryXP ropes in more diameters and colors by January, 2018. To learn more about the treatment, availability or available lengths and colors, please visit SterlingRope.com. For questions or sales inquiries please contact 1-800-788-ROPE or email climb@sterlingrope.com

Steve Tenney, UBS Wealth Management

"Business owners know that once they sell their business, they'll likely need to share the proceeds with the government in the form of taxes. When that sale is still a long way off, however, it can be tempting to delay planning around any future liability. But the sooner you start planning, the more flexibility you'll have in your strategy options, and the better chance you'll have to achieve your long-term goals for your family and your business."

Pop Quiz from July 2017 Manufacturing Matters Newsletter:

True or False - Hiring employees with a higher level of education, training and experience with finances dramatically decreases the potential for asset misappropriation because they know the proper accounting procedures.

OK, this one should be super easy because you always try to hire the best.  Raise your hand with me if you answered “True”.  Is that everybody yet?  Darn it, we are all wrong!  Regardless of your education, training and experience – the potential for asset misappropriation exists if you have someone with a perceived pressure and the mere opportunity to commit a fraudulent act that can be rationalized.

Scenario #1:

A highly trained individual is tasked with handling all organizational monies (cash, checks and online credit card numbers), including preparing the bank deposits, reconciling the monthly bank statements, and preparing financial statements.  Now add on top of that list the Account Payable function for one person.

This scenario routinely tops the experts list of an organizations biggest vulnerability to asset misappropriation.  It does not guarantee that the individual will at some point run off with all of the money, but the lack of having separation of duties surrounding the accounting functions is a giant inherent risk for every organization.

Pop Quiz #4:  What is the first thing you do when Bernie Madoff applies to your Controller opening?

Answer:  Please wait for the September Newsletter!
