There is a lot going on in November! We have Elections, Daylight Savings time ends and of course Thanksgiving. Veterans Day is this Thursday the 11th. Here is a little history about Veterans Day:
Great Britain, France, and other countries celebrate November 11th as Armistice Day (Veterans Day as of 1954) to commemorate the ending of World War I on November 11, 1918. Fighting ceased at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month. Canada celebrates Remembrance Day on this same date. November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars”.
1919 - President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as Armistice Day to remind Americans of the tragedies of war.
President Woodrow “"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…"
Today, in the United States, Veterans Day commemorates the courage and patriotism of all the men and women who have served in the United States military.
Thank you to ALL who have served and who are currently serving at this moment. You are in our thoughts!
