Grayling offers FIBCs with form fitted liners

Grayling offers FIBCs with form fitted liners

The Guardian form fit liner in a flexible intermediate bulk container (FIBC) offers many advantages.

  • Form fitting the liner to your bulk bag eliminates the traps, folds and creases that are created when using the traditional "tube" style FIBC liner.
  • The Guardian form fitted liner will also retain the shape of the bulk bag during and after dispensing the bag, which eliminates the problem of the tube liner coming out with the product being discharged and getting caught up in your processing equipment.
  • The Guardian form fit liners helps you to achieve a consistent fill weight in each FIBC and also helps with stability as the bag retains its square shape better with a formed liner.
  • Using the Guardian Form Fit liner instead of a tube liner generates less waste.

An Interview with Mr. Brian Todd, Account Manager / Production Coordinator

An Interview with Mr. Brian Todd, Account Manager / Production Coordinator

Brian Todd is the Production Coordinator and Customer Service Manager for Grayling Industries. Brian is a University of Georgia graduate. He is originally from Springfield, Illinois and now resides in the Atlanta area with his wife Joanna and their two sons, Hunter and Tucker. Brian has been an essential member of the Grayling team since 1998

Brian, tell us how you came to work with Grayling:

I came to Grayling after a year of working at Dover Elevator, my first job out of college. I initially worked as an outside salesman for Dover selling elevator maintenance contracts. Then I moved to new construction sales that involved meeting with contractors and architects to help spec out our elevator products, which was a much more rewarding position. However, when the push came up to relocate, I began my new career search, which landed me at Grayling in a customer service role.

What do you enjoy most about working at Grayling?

Besides the lunch program? Just kidding, even though we do enjoy free lunches, the most enjoyable aspect of working at Grayling is that I get see, and get involved in, almost all aspects of the business from product design to operations and production, new business development and even credit and collections. My job suits me well as my responsibilities allow me to work on production scheduling and planning as well as working directly with our customers and our Territory Managers on supply chain issues and new business development.

What would most people be surprised to know about you?

Well, a couple of things come to mind: One; I played centerfield with the University of Georgia baseball team against the Atlanta Braves in their first spring training practice game after winning the World Series back in 1996. The other thing is a hobby of mine: Me and my neighbors put up a Christmas display in our cul-de-sac for fun and to raise money for charity each year. This year the display will incorporate 6 houses and 250,000 lights synched to music that is broadcast on a local radio channel. Last year we raised over $11,000 for a local family shelter.

Grayling attains Kosher Certification

Grayling attains Kosher Certification

Grayling announced that the Guardian line of IBC liners for food products has recently been certified by the Star-K organization as Kosher.

Per Mr. Raymond Joyner, Director of Sales for Grayling, "The kosher certification process involves a thorough review of all of the ingredients used in the manufacture of our product, as well as, the equipment that the product is manufactured on and the actual manufacturing process".

Kosher rules are based on Jewish dietary laws found in the Torah. The Torah does not specifically state the reasons for these laws, however many believe that the primary purpose, other than religious, is for hygiene. Today, the word kosher is commonly accepted English slang meaning; proper, legitimate or acceptable.

Per Mr. Joyner, "We applied for and attained kosher certification to better serve our industrial customers who require, or prefer, kosher certified packaging"

Star-K, in Baltimore Maryland, is a non-profit organization that provides kosher certification services to companies all over the world. The Star-K personnel who conduct the reviews are highly trained in the laws of kosher, as well as, in food technology, the food processing industry, packaging and ingredients. Once certification has been granted, periodic visits are conducted by Star-K Rabbinic field representatives to monitor and audit compliance with the terms of the certification agreement.

Manuel Gallarzo's book on Organizational Development

Manuel Gallarzo's book on Organizational Development

Manuel Gallarzo joined Grayling as our Director of Human Resources in 2005. Mr. Gallarzo did an outstanding job in this position bringing down the average turnover rate among our plant personnel to unheard of levels while dramatically improving employee satisfaction scores. Since then Manuel has taken on many other responsibilities, including, most recently, Director of Manufacturing Operations in our Juarez Mexico manufacturing plant.

Back in 2008, Manuel helped to write an educational book with a couple of his Human Resources colleagues to help students and academics understand organizational development in Latin American companies. Recently their efforts were recognized and their book, Desarrollo Organizacional, is being published by Pearson Publishing this year.

We are all very proud of Manuel and this outstanding accomplishment and very fortunate to have him on our Team.

Sustainability

Sustainability

According to a common definition; a product is sustainable if it will: "meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs"

Grayling supports and promotes sustainability and environmental responsibility. We design and sell products that best meet the current needs of our customers, taking into consideration the cost, safety, performance and life-cycle of the product, which includes the potential long-term environmental impact of the product.

  • We do not use recycled polyethylene in the production of our Guardian liners because so many of the products packaged in our liners require FDA approved packaging. However, whenever appropriate, we do use recyclable film structures in our process and we capture and recycle all of the excess polyethylene material generated throughout the manufacturing process.
  • We also encourage waste reduction by promoting the down-gauging of coextruded films, which reduces weight and volume, resulting in lower freight costs and reduced fuel consumption, and ultimately, if the liner is not recycled or turned into energy, there is less material to dispose of in a landfill.
  • The use of Guardian form-fitted liners also potentially reduces waste by allowing the full use of the interior of each IBC container without creating any folds, pleats or traps to reduce the capacity of the container and create residual waste by trapping product rather than allowing a complete dispense.
  • The PaperIBC one-way corrugated container for bulk liquids is an example of a sustainable industrial package.
    • The container is manufactured from a renewable resource
    • It uses up to 80% less storage and shipping space as other similar containers
    • Because the container is designed as a "one-way" container, there are no fossil fuels consumed to return the container once emptied.
    • It is waste-to-energy efficient, recyclable and biodegradable
